Well Being

At FASNY, student well-being is the foundation of everything we do. From preschool through high school, we nurture a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where students are empowered to grow, take risks, and thrive.

In our bilingual Preschool, each class is guided by a team of French and English-speaking educators who ensure every child feels secure and supported. A dedicated Well-Being team, including a nurse, counselor, librarian, and speech therapist, creates a caring atmosphere that supports social, emotional, and academic growth.

Throughout the Lower School years, students continue to benefit from bilingual instruction and collaborative teaching teams that tailor learning to individual needs. Carefully designed routines, outdoor play, and special projects help children develop confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.

In Middle School, students are guided through the complexities of adolescence by a strong network of educators and wellness professionals, including teachers, heads of department, leaders of learning, administrators, and support staff. Life- and study-skills classes help them build essential habits—like time management, self-awareness, and effective communication—that support both academic success and personal growth.

By High School, FASNY students are prepared to take ownership of their learning and leadership. That same well-being team creates a dedicated support system to foster their social-emotional development, while a wide range of student-led clubs, athletics, and service opportunities encourage them to explore their passions and prepare for life beyond school.

At every stage, FASNY’s commitment to well-being ensures that students are not only successful learners but also kind, resilient, and engaged citizens of the world.
FASNY provides students with a full well-being team including:
  • A speech therapist
  • Three school counselors
  • Leaders of Learning in Middle and High Schools
  • Administration
  • School Nurses
  • If a teacher, leader of learning, is concerned about a student because of academic or psycho-social performance, the well-being team will meet to discuss concerns. The team includes the leader of learning, the counselor, the dean of students, the head of school and anyone working directly with the child. (For the Elementary, the format is simpler: teachers, counselor, administrators, parents).
  • The well-being team develops an action plan with strategies to support the student academically and psycho-socially. This plan is shared and discussed with the parents. The school psychologist and the speech therapist may be asked to intervene as well.
  • If further academic or psycho-social evaluation or therapy is necessary, a referral to outside resources will be made.
  • The counselors implement SEL programs, facilitate circle time in class, teach Social Skills and act as a sounding board and space to talk for students and families.
In collaboration with families, Division Heads, teachers, and our well-being team, FASNY offers services on campus to enrich the learning environment for our students. Some of the services include:

List of 3 items.

  • Learning Support

    • Differentiated teaching is put in place at all grade levels in order to address the needs of each child.
    • Extra help is built into the students' schedules in ways that vary with each age group.
  • Directed Studies

Various structures are offered on our premises after school, from one-on-one tutoring, to homework help, to supervised studies. The offerings vary according to the student's grade level and required level of support.  These structures are currently not available because of the covid pandemic.
  • Language Support

    In English:

    • A three-tiered approach ensures students move from beginner level through native-like fluency while reaping the benefits of the American education system. Students who are not fluent in English are taught the American curriculum in smaller groups, with an emphasis on language acquisition.

    In French:

    • In the Lower School, the push-in/pull-out system allows a tailored approach to the acquisition of French linguistic skills:
      • Push-in: A second teacher comes into the classroom during certain French language arts classes.
      • Pull-out: Small groups of students work separately with a teacher on specific skills during certain French language arts classes.
      • A French speech therapist provides personalized support to our students.
    • In the Middle and High School, students may receive extra help in French at every grade level.
