Over the weekend of March 16, a group of students in FASNY's Model United Nations club attended the "Change the World" Model UN conference, held at United Nations headquarters in Manhattan.
The location of the conference added a special dimension for the students. "Being part of this conference at the United Nations put the debates into perspective," said 10th grader Azélie Lemoine. "Being there made it more realistic."
Social studies teacher Claudia Castaybert, who mentors the Model UN club, noted that what made this conference particularly exciting was the guest of honor at the opening ceremonies: Bill Clinton. Tenth grader Alexandra Le Breton said she was "inspired" by the anecdotes the former U.S. president told of his visits with former South African president Nelson Mandela in the years following the latter's release from prison and what Clinton said Mandela had taught him about peacemaking.
