Sophomore Emilie Pellaud is the winner of a logo design competition to select the next version of FASNY's beloved mascot.
The contest was a required out-of-class assignment for Art Option 10 and 11 students. Each was asked to submit two prototypes, one of which could be more experimental in its design style. "We had already had a number of discussions in class on logo design," explained high school art teacher Alison McNulty. "This followed a first-trimester project in which students hand-bound their own sketchbook and were asked to research logos in order to design one for the cover—a sort of branding of their own creative identity."
Submissions were narrowed down to six, which were then voted upon by members of the school administration and FASNY student government officers. Emilie's design (see above) emerged the favorite.
"In creating the logo, I wanted to represent the true essence of FASNY," said Emilie. "Since it is, above all, a sports logo, I wanted to make the shark look assertive and determined to win while keeping it classic with the cartoon style."
