11S students producing a stop-motion video

In an interdisciplinary project involving biology/Earth science and French, 11S students created stop-motion videos to explain scientific concepts.

The videos are the result of a week-long undertaking in which French literature teacher Bao Ha-Minh taught students how to create a storyboard and SVT teacher Lauri-Anne Sotty showed them how to use the stop-motion film technique to explain a scientific concept they have studied this year.

Below are videos illustrating mitosis, a type of cell division resulting in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus; gene mutation; and subduction (i.e., the movement of the Earth's crust) on the ocean floor.
