Kindergartners and First Graders Get with the Programming

Since February, kindergartners and first graders have been learning how to code using the Osmo system.

English and French teachers in these grades, along with coding teacher Irum Khan, began by giving students a sense of where and how coding skills are used. Students then coded robots (kindergartners programmed Bee-Bots and first graders Dash robots) to manipulate numbers on a grid. Students were required to identify a path and then program the robot to run the path by using simple addition (kindergartners) or double-digit addition, subtraction, and basic multiplication (first graders).

Here's a video clip of two first graders at work.
