Seventh graders once again participated in the annual peace poster competition organized by Lions Clubs International. After reviewing submissions from the entire grade, a panel of FASNY staff members chose artworks by Charlie Pellerin, Julia Stiker, and Nesrine Zigha to be entered in the 2019-2020 contest.
Nesrine's illustration (pictured above) was subsequently selected by Lions International as the winning entry from FASNY and will go on to compete against the winners from five other local schools, while Julia's and Charlie's works received honorable mentions from the judges.
The Lions International peace poster contest is a worldwide competition open to children ages 11 to 13, encouraging them to express their vision of world peace through art. This year's theme is "Journey of Peace."
Update: Nesrine ended up winning both the local competition—the second year in a row that a FASNY student has done so—and the regional one and has now advanced to the state level.
