For their first production of the 2018-2019 school year, students in the high school's Cinema Club focused a lens on the recent service-learning trip to the Dominican Republic.
Two of the club's members—Carla Candish and Emilie Declercq—produced a nearly five-minute video depicting highlights of the October-break trip, in which 21 FASNY sophomores and juniors lived with members of a rural Dominican community for a week and, in partnership with the non-profit Bridges to Community, helped build two houses for local families in need.
Prior to the trip, the Cinema Club's faculty advisor, French literature teacher Vincent Combe, taught students a few cinematography techniques, but his parting instruction to them before they left was simply to "capture your best memories." The students did that beautifully; watch the complete video here.
FASNY's Cinema Club plans to produce two more videos this school year.
