On September 17, the girls varsity soccer team defeated the Lycée Français de New York (LFNY) 2-1 in an unforgettable game that doubled as the season's home opener.
LFNY managed to score in the very first minute, following a quick fast-break. FASNY did not give up, though; the girls fought hard during the remainder of the first half but came up scoreless.
In the second half, parents and spectators cheered when a foul was called suddenly, around 20 meters from the goal posts, in favor of FASNY. Diane Cruiziat '20 made the shot, which was pushed back by the LFNY goalie but successfully hit again by Clara Chu '21 (watch video of the moment here). The second goal came after some beautiful teamwork that culminated in Cruiziat scoring the winning goal, also captured on video.
Bravo to the team and its coaches, Tom Faure and Jean-René Guyot, on a thrilling victory!
Editor's note: Come and cheer on the boys varsity team on Monday, September 24, at 5:00 pm, when they take on LFNY at SUNY Purchase (parking lot E1). We wish them the same success as the girls!
