3 years ago, in 6th grade, Noe J., Alex G. and Sofyan S. recreated the feeling of hunger at their school assembly by not having a snack, and eating only a very small lunch. Upon realizing the terrible feeling of hunger, they decided to try to make a difference and took on this cause.
Now in 8th grade, they have realized their project to raise money and donate it to an association called “Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now)” (http://www.stophungernow.org) who has packed around 261 MILLION meals! They recently received a thank-you letter for their efforts and hard work, which led to a large contribution to the organization.
"It's important for our families to know how hard some of our young students are working to make a difference in the world. We are raising global citizens and these children really demonstrated their commitment and engagement with issues of global significance. They are truly remarkable and I am very proud of their commitment and perseverance to this wonderful cause," said Anita Giordano, School Counselor and Community Service Coordinator.
Congratulations to these three students and to the many other FASNY students who work hard towards making the world a better place!
